Job Description:
The Product Owner II serves a critical role as a voice and champion of the customer.  They drive important policy changes and other system enhancements from the “idea stage” all the way through software development and deployment.  They work closely with both clinical and technical resources and are ultimately responsible for delivering value to members throughout the transplant community.
Job Description
The Product Owner II provides subject matter expertise to organ committees and other business groups, providing insight on technical and system impacts to various solutions which are being considered to address and deliver upon strategic goals.  The Product Owner II will document requirements and other key project deliverables and help guide new policies and enhancements through the approval process. 
Working within an agile development environment, the Product Owner II also provides leadership and direction to scrum teams by conveying new organ policy vision, outlining work in the product backlog, prioritizing stories based on business value, and removing impediments that block progress or slow teams down. Throughout each development sprint, the Product Owner II relies on effective communication with both the business stakeholders as well as developers in order to answer questions, provide direction and represent the business interest and intent. The Product Owner II also develops a strong partnership with the scrum team, understanding their needs, and negotiating effectively to get the job done.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Take ownership of key initiatives that drive the organization toward positive change by delivering key system improvements that add value to the organization 
  • Translate business solutions into requirements so they can be reviewed for efficacy and approval by Board of Directors; create equivalent project epics and user stories which can be consumed by agile development teams to create working software
  • Understand viability of technical design options for business problems by working closely with the software development team, and be able to communicate those options and related decisions effectively
  • Utilize effective agile Product Owner practices, including maintenance of healthy backlogs to ensure teams operate at desired velocity, creation of sprint goals and other measures to drive successful delivery, and inspection and validation of product increments during sprint reviews, etc. 
  • Provide subject matter expertise and knowledge sharing (internal and external) on new system capabilities
  • Contribute toward portfolio management, including implementation planning and prioritization, understanding trade-offs, etc.
Minimum Requirements
  • 6+ years of experience within the field of software development, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience as a leader
Critical Skills
  • Two to Five years of demonstrated Product/Service Owner and/or Business Analyst and/or Business System Analyst experience, or equivalent
  • Two+ years demonstrated experience interacting with the business customer
  • Good understanding of Agile delivery and the role of Product Owner within a Scrum team
  • Demonstrated ability to groom features, write user stories, and create effective acceptance criteria within a collaborative environment
  • Strong agile mindset that values servant leadership, collaboration and flexibility
  • Ability to clearly communicate business vision to their scrum teams
  • Background in medical, healthcare, or transplant related field, and/or demonstrated ability to quickly develop strong domain knowledge in order to be well-versed in requirements, able to resolve impediments, and able to make sound decisions
  • Ability to meet deadlines successfully while managing multiple priorities
  • Understanding of software development methodologies, preferably with a grasp of design principles and potential technical trade-offs/implications
  • Demonstrated ability to lead stakeholder meetings, communicate and report information effectively across multiple stakeholder teams, and drive others to make decisions
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Dedicated to continuous improvement of agile methods and delivery, with an ability to drive change through a department or organization
  • Experience with portfolio management and the ability to assess broader impacts to key decisions and strategies
  • Ability to successfully identify and advocate activities during software development that deliver the highest business value
  • Deep understanding of Agile Scrum team member roles and their interdependence
  • Understanding of the following methodologies: Scrum, Kanban, SAFe
  • Understanding of VersionOne or equivalent agile delivery tools 
  • Understanding of .NET software programming framework
Education 
4-year degree required.  Degree in Computer Science, Life Sciences or Business preferred.
Certifications
Agile Product Owner, or related certification preferred
