Job Duties
Strategy & Planning
  • Collaborate with leadership to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
  • Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, and maintain current knowledge of plan executables. Respond to emergency network outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
Acquisition & Deployment
  • Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, UPSs, and other Network related hardware.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
  • Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
Operational Management
  • Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
  • Receive and respond to incoming calls, notifications, and/or e-mails regarding network connectivity problems.
  • Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, and other network appliances.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
  • Participate in managing all network security solutions.
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and install equipment into network equipment racks
Essential Qualifications
Knowledge & Preferred Experience
    Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN and WLAN design and implementation
  • Strong knowledge of routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP
  • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices
  • Extensive application support experience with Nessus and Solarwinds, Cisco Identity Services Engine
  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, software, protocols, and standards, including VPN/SSL VPN, Network Design, Network Security, TCP/IP, Active Directory, Routing Protocols, Windows platform, Cisco IOS, CiscoWorks Prime, Cisco ASA, wireless protocols
  • Extensive experience with firewalls and security protocols
  • Ability to operate network component analyzers, scanners, and testers showing competence with testing tools
  • Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws including HIPAA and PCI 
  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science preferred
  • Certifications: CCNP

The Network team is responsible for:
·         Over 72,000 Ethernet interfaces ranging from 10Mbps to 40Gbps.
·         5.5 Million square feet of Wireless
·         F5 Server load balancing.
·         DNS/DHCP Infoblox.
·         NTP
·         Network Security including Firewall, VPN, URL filtering, Gigamon
·         Datacenter Networking and Security
·         Fiber optic diagnostic tools
·         NMS like Akips, CiscoWorks, Scrutinizer etc...
That’s all I can think of right now. Of course each one of the above topics include in-depth aspect that are to immense be contained in a meager email. Although having a conceptual understanding of everything is helpful, I also encourage staff to pursue their individual passions in the field.
