Position Description:
Our client is looking for Sr. Systems Engineer candidates for a position located in Mechanicsville, VA. The Systems Engineer is responsible for the planning, configuration, deployment, documentation, maintenance, and support of enterprise systems infrastructure.This individual is responsible for working with other IT teams as well as business operations staff to research, recommend, plan and execute solutions to support business functions. This includes primary responsibility for the company’s VMWare virtual machine environment as well as Nimble advanced storage area networks, with a primarily Microsoft operating system environment.  
  • Maintain Systems Infrastructure: (40%)
    • Act as a systems architect and engineer to configure, maintain, upgrade, and develop systems solutions for the company
    • Coordinate with other IT staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
    • Identify and resolve business systems issues
    • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
    • Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
    Perform Tier 3 Support to End Users: (20%)
    • Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems
    • Provide end-user support for systems and applications
    Design, Develop, Implement Systems Architecture: (15%)
    • Develop plans to implement systems architecture components in accordance to business needs and established standards
    • Produce cost and labor estimates, ROI statements, and proposals to be submitted to the governance process
    • Design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems
    • Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
    • Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
    • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services.
    • Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to systems analysts and application development teams.
    • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
    • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
    • Administer datacenter facilities and equipment
    • Act as a systems designer / architect
    Systems Integration: (15%)
    • Integrate servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.
    • Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.
    • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of the in-house computing systems.
    Business Continuity and Data Protection Planning and Implementation (10%)
    • Ensure proper backup, restore, and failover of systems and data storage
    • Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies
Required Skills:
  • Education and/or experience could include, but are not limited to the following:
    • 3+ years of systems engineering and systems architecture experience in an enterprise environment
    • 5+ years of experience administering Microsoft Windows operating systems and associated business applications
    • 4+ years of experience with VMWare vSphere and vCenter
    • 4+ years of experience administering storage area networks (SANs)
    • 3+ years of experience utilizing Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) to support a Windows environment
    • 3+ years of experience leading technical teams
    • Experience administering Microsoft Exchange Server
    • Experience administering Active Directory
    • Demonstrated ability to architect enterprise level systems solutions
    • Experience with JD Edwards CNC (Configurable Network Computing)
    • Experience with Business Objects Enterprise Crystal Reports Server
    • Familiarity with Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards compliance
    • Master’s degree in business, computer science, or related discipline
    • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
