Position Description:
Our client is looking for Web Press Operator candidates for a position located in Richmond, VA.  The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma or equivalent, 5+ years of experience as a Web 2nd Press Operator, proven problem-solving abilities on press, pre-press and press operations and functions, as well as thorough knowledge of how to mix and produce correct colors for printing.
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
These are functions a qualified incumbent or applicant must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Reads docket instructions and sets up or directs set-up of press based on these instructions
  • Makes job ready by running samples to adjust print quality, registration, color settings and mixings
  • Makes final pre-run inspection of job and approves jobs
  • Responsible for the quality of printed work within defined levels of authority
  • Monitors pH and conductivity of fountain solution on offset press
  • Leads Press team on multi-color presses
  • Performs preventative maintenance on presses such as lubrication, replacement of small parts, cleaning and minor adjustments to rollers and other small moving parts
  • Maintains and reads Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs)
  • Sees to the proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals
 
Required Education:
High School Diploma or 5+ years of experience
 
Required Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of problem solving on press and of pre-press and press operations and functions
  • Thorough knowledge of how to mix and produce correct colors in printing
  • Knowledge of federal and state hazardous waste handling and disposal regulations
  • Excellent math and color perception skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet short deadlines
  • Ability to operate press equipment and detect malfunctions
  • Ability to follow and apply written and verbal instructions
  • Must be able to work a 12 hour rotating shift (rotates days/nights and front end/back end of the week)
