Position Description:
Our client is looking for Junior Civil / Structural Engineer for a position located in Richmond, VA.  A Junior Civil/Structural Engineer will begin their career by performing various Civil and Structural design duties on assigned projects, including, but not limited to, industrial process areas, structural steel and platforms, and various foundation types.  The ideal candidate will grow and develop in their own abilities and interests together with the company.  This job description should be regarded as a framework or starting point for an individual who would like to eventually become a Structural Engineer and/or Project Manager within our organization.
 
Practical Application of Responsibilities:
  • Assist Civil/Structural Engineers and Project Manager(s) in developing bids, proposals, scopes of work, scope changes, correspondence, estimates, schedules, material lists, design concepts, design drawings, calculations, and other project documentation per customer and corporate guidelines
  • Assist and perform field work and technical research as directed
  • Perform the necessary drawing design and develop drawings suitable for construction as directed in coordination with licensed Professional and Structural Engineers
  • Maintain project files and documentation
  • Certify accuracy and completeness of all deliverable products and services in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Maintain project(s) budget and schedule
 
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering, with a Structural focus, from an ABET accredited institution, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • One (1) or more years design experience utilizing AutoCAD, version 2013 or later
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple projects and assignments
  • Aptitude for learning new software
  • Some field work experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • Working knowledge of Engineering Drawing and CAD Standards
  • Working knowledge in obtaining detailed field dimensions utilizing the proper tools
  • Working knowledge of requirements for incorporating safety, maintainability, and operation into a design
  • Experience in the layout of equipment and steel
  • Proven skills in Microsoft Windows applications, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office
 
Preferred Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Two (2) or more years of heavy industrial experience
  • Experience in an industrial chemical processing environment is a plus
  • One (1) or more years design experience with Autodesk Revit Structure, version 2008 or later
  • The ability to collect design information and verify tie- ins, function and clearances
  • Structural Steel Design experience is a plus
