Position Description:
Our client is looking for Systems Engineering Manager candidates for a position located in Newport News, VA.  The client is a large manufacturing company that services a great variety of industries. They employ more than 40,000 people and offer an outstanding compensation and benefits package. They’re in the market for a systems engineer who has excellent technical and leadership skills.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the systems group.  
  • Designs systems and controls; recommends equipment and components for systems, which include, but are not limited to low and high voltage electrical, hydraulic, and the various supporting subsystems. Designs, develops, and evaluates software code for control systems on mining equipment.
 
Required Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related engineering discipline
 
Required Skills:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the design, specification, and utilization of PLC control on mobile equipment.
  • Knowledge of software programming tools (ex. CoDeSys, C++, etc.) and ability to write specifications that describe software function and optimize, troubleshoot, and validate software code.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (ex. RS232, CanOpen, J1939, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of communication networks and vehicle communication bus architecture.
  • Knowledge of signal processing techniques.
  • Knowledge of all major truck systems and the interaction between systems, including drive systems, control systems, hydraulic systems, and mechanical systems and ability to read and write electrical and hydraulic schematics. 
  • Knowledge of electric drive systems as applied to mining equipment, in particular to the application of diesel-electric haul trucks.
  • Knowledge of BaaN system as it relates to truck BOM structure and inventory control.
