We are seeking Data Analyst candidates for a position located in Richmond, VA. The Data Analyst provide programming and analytical support for scientific studies, contract deliverables, data requests, and database maintenance activities utilizing the proprietary database, research analysis datasets and other sources of data as necessary.
The ideal candidate has three years of programming experience and is a self-motivated team player, skilled in a broad set of analytical tools, with a strong passion for data and effective visualization techniques. Ability to adapt and learn quickly, provide results with limited direction, and communicate complex results effectively is a must. 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Construct and document analytic datasets using SAS, SQL, R, or other programming tools.
  • Respond to data requests adhering to department standards and procedures.
  • Utilize intermediate and advanced programming and data visualization techniques to produce understandable and usable output – reports, tables and figures – from the or special databases driven by project specific needs, adhering to department standards and procedures including documentation.
  • Write, maintain and document programs to analyze the accuracy of the data in the database and monitor for potential database changes. Use intermediate and advanced programming techniques along with department standards and procedures.
  • Support compliance monitoring and other audit functions using intermediate and advanced programming techniques.
  • Assist senior staff in the preparation of analytic results in the form of both data and written reports, manuscripts and abstracts/posters for professional meetings. 
Top 3 Requirements
  • 3 years experience in SAS, R, Python or other data programming
  • Experience creating Dashboards and reports with data visualization software(Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics, etc.) and data-driven storytelling skills
  • Experience with Excel/ VBA Macros
Critical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of SAS, R, Python or SQL.
  • Experience working with large data sets.
  • Deep analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to initiate, refine, and complete challenging projects with minimal guidance.
  • Capable of clearly communicating complex analyses to a non-technical audience.

Additional Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience with data visualization software (Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics, other).
  • Experience in Excel/VBA Macros.
  • Experience in Hadoop/Big Data programming. 
Education
  • 4-year degree in Statistics, Math, or related data analysis field or 5 years equivalent level of SAS, SQL, R, or other programming experience is required 
  • Advanced degree in mathematical, data-oriented or computing specialty is preferred
