Position Title: Workstation Technician
Location: Birmingham, Alabama
Position Status: Full Time/ Multi-Year Contract
 
Position Description:
Our client is looking for Workstation Technician candidates for a position located in Birmingham, Alabama.  The chosen candidate will provide direct end-user support for elementary PC hardware and software problems in addition to implementing Installations, Moves, Adds and Changes. The position also includes maintaining PC hardware/software inventories.
 
The day-to-day workflow is mainly ad-hoc basis through a combination of the Support Center, Workstation Technician, or via direct end-user contact by email or voice. End-users will contact Support for assistance.  Should the issue require an on-site technician for resolution, Support assigns a work ticket to the technician that has the responsibility for the customer. The technician then works tickets assigned based on the priority of the tickets in their work queue. If the problem extends beyond the incumbent’s expertise, the technician is responsible for escalating the issue to next level support.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Install, move, and configure PC hardware, software, and peripherals in accordance with established procedures and configurations.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks, troubleshoots and computer systems and peripherals within defined deadlines or timeframes.
  • Consult with hardware and software vendors to repairs workstations and peripherals.
  • Communicates with end users, peer technical support resources, and business partners regarding operational activities and support escalations.
 
Required Education:
An entry level certification for Microsoft, networks, or databases or an associate’s degree in an IT related field
 
Required Skills:
  • Six months experience in servicing PC hardware and software is required. 
  • Able to lift and carry 40 pounds of weight.
  • Working knowledge of current operating systems and office productivity suites.
  • Experience repairing PC hardware.
  • Experience supporting PC applications and hardware via telephone is acceptable, but hands-on experience is preferred.
  • Experience supporting workstations in an educational laboratory is also acceptable.
Desired Skills:
  • An MCP certification, CNA certification, an A+ certification or a Bachelor’s degree is also preferred. 
  • Excellent end-user service skills
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree
  • Experience with the daily use of Enterprise Desktop management products such as Microsoft System Management Center, Novell’s Zenworks, Altiris Desktop Management products, Intel LanDesk, or Symantec Endpoint Security.
  • Occasional overnight travel
  • Able to handle pressure situations effectively.
  • Supported an environment with 100+ end users.
