Location: Richmond, Virginia 23219
Position Status: 6 month contract-to-hire  
Pay: Extremely competitive 
Shift: Monday – Friday (8am to 5pm)
 
Position Description
Provide hardware and software support relating to the network, server and computing environment. Perform installation and configuration of infrastructure. Assist with application performance tuning and high-level troubleshooting. Assist with the configuration and maintenance of the backup and business continuity systems. Monitor network and hardware for performance. Review network configuration and implement architecture, topology, hardware and software solutions. Create maintenance schedules and perform hardware, software and security updates. Effective and innovative use of technology to automate systems.  
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
Perform analysis and design
  • Provide and support development environments
  • Identify additional requirements
  • Adapt existing Infrastructure to new business environments
  • Review and incorporate data identifying customer requirements
  • Identify, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements
  • Review network architecture, topology, interdependencies, and constraints
  • Research technical alternatives and analyze technical options
  • Lead and participate in design review
  • Prepare overall design and integration plan for new processes, protocols, and equipment
  • Recommend selection of architecture, topology, hardware, and software
 
Perform configuration and implementation
  • Plan and document system configuration
  • Implement new system configuration
  • Support, track, and document change implementation
  • Contribute to the development of deployment plan and methods
  • Provide uniform integration for legacy systems
  • Providing status reports to management
  • Creates and maintains appropriate documentation
 
Perform network testing
  • Define and document testing procedures
  • Develop test plans and procedures
  • Schedule and perform testing
  • Document, interpret, and report test results
 
Perform security administration
  • Develop and implement security procedures
  • Monitor and report security problems
 
Minimum Requirements
5 years of demonstrated hardware and software troubleshooting experience
 
Critical Skills
  • Operational understanding of the Enterprise Architecture is required
  • Experience managing high-availability production systems (Load Balancing, Clustering, Hot-Site, Fail-over)
  • Experience working with Virtualization Technologies:  Hyper-V and VMware
  • Strong Trouble-shooting skills
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

  • Experience working within a Windows Environment with strong understanding of:
    • Active Directory
    • Group Policy
    • DNS
    • DHCP
    • Certificates
  • Experience managing Routers, Switches and Firewalls:
    • Subnet(s)
    • ACL(s)
    • VLAN Configuration
    • Spanning-tree
    • OSPF
    • BGP
  • Familiarity with Cloud Architecture to include Azure and AWS
 
Education
4-year degree in information systems, computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience
