Position Status: 6 months contract to hire
Job Description
The Linux Administrator is responsible for administration of Linux servers in our Hadoop environments that ingest, analyze, and serve data in support of our operational and research efforts.  The ideal candidate has several years’ experience maintaining infrastructure, using current Hadoop (YARN, Scoop, Pig, Hive, HDFS) technologies, and deploying enterprise level REST services. You will develop tooling to streamline deployments, work with engineers and data scientists to identify and assess new technologies, monitor and tune performance to handle increasing workloads, and contribute to the evolution of the platform architecture.

Minimum Requirements
3+ years experience in Linux administration, Apache Hadoop and Hive
Critical Skills
  • Knowledge of Linux, SQL Server and database structures
  • Hands-on experience working with large data sets
  • Experience with Pig and Hive
  • Experience with Linux command line and shell programming, scripting skills (Bash, Python)
  • Experience with system automation tools such as Chef, Puppet, Docker
  • Experience managing cloud-based deployments (AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Familiarity with logging and monitoring tools
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Possesses a broad set of technology skills to be able to build and support robust Hadoop solutions for big data problems
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly as the industry grows and be able to transfer knowledge to others
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, user-driven team atmosphere
  • Experience in agile or dev-ops environments that operate with both team and individual responsibilities bound together by accountability
  • Experience with troubleshooting complex systems
  • Must be able to grasp the problem at hand and recognize the appropriate approach and tools to solve it
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to interface across multiple groups within the company
  • Proficient in at least one scripting language (e.g. perl, python)
  • At least 5 years of working in systems or application administration in MS Windows or Linux environment
4-year degree in Computer Science or related field or 6+ years of equivalent work experience in information technology
