CNC Machinist

Position Title: CNC Machinist
Location: Birmingham, AL           
Position Status: Direct hire
Position Description:
Our client is seeking CNC Machinist candidates for a position in the automotive industry located in Birmingham, AL.
  • Must make minor offset adjustments and/or tool changes
  • Troubleshoot on the CNC horizontal and vertical mill, lathe and perform setups and tool changes as required
  • Monitor tool life
  • Check parts and place them on the equipment or gauging stations correctly
  • Report any problems to Team Leader in a manner that reflects the urgency of the problem
  • Able to operate on line gauging and understand the readings
  • Meet production requirements in a timely/efficient manner
  • Recommend and initiate changes to continuously improve processes and tooling
  • Perform P.M.s on machines and set up schedules
  • Fill out production sheets and all other production related documents as required and monitor SPC/quality and document updates
  • Coordinate machining schedule between Engineering, Maintenance and Die Shop
  • Maintain dies and other tooling to produce quality parts to improve processes and increase productivity
  • Tig & Mig welding and hand working parts of dies (heat treat of materials)
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of die work/operations
  • Sound understanding and machine knowledge, able to run all tool room equipment including measuring instruments and CNC Mills
  • Assist in determining spare parts requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentation
  • Train operators and new team members
  • Recommend modifications to existing tooling
  • Establish and maintain communication with other team members and support departments
  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing processes
  • Ensure quality product and know quality procedures
  • Program CNC Machines using offline G-Code software
  • Work to blueprints, CAD data, sketches, and verbal instructions
  • Select appropriate cutting tools as required
  • Perform quality checks on an ongoing basis to ensure product is within tolerance
  • Ability to use a variety of controls and run 3 and 5 axis machines
  • Must be able to setup and make edits to the CNC horizontal and vertical mills and lathes
  • Must have experience reading and working from blueprints, CAD prints and data
  • Organizational skills

  • Blueprint reading/knowledge of CAD
  • Weld Training
