Position Description:
Our client is looking for Data Architect candidates for a position that be Remote or located in San Antonio, TX.  The need is for an experienced Data Architect to design, develop, and deploy architecture, standards and processes to improve the management of information and data throughout the Total Force Training Record (TFTR) lifecycle.
The Data Architect is responsible for helping to design, deploy, manage and support the systems and infrastructure required for a data processing pipeline in support of a products requirements. Primary responsibilities revolve around DevOps and include implementing ETL (extract, transform and load) pipelines, monitoring/maintaining data pipeline performance. Provide technical expertise in the architecture, design, and baseline configuration of data required for the TFTR program. The Data Architect will oversee and participate in the implementation of data architecture enhancements and projects through all phases of the system development life cycle and deliver data management solutions to the team internally, government client’s and stakeholders.  The successful candidate must be self-motivated and have an assertive yet professional demeanor, a high technical aptitude, be detail oriented, and possess strong multitasking skills.
  • Contribute to the overall agency data strategy – work with government client and other teams/organizations
  • Assist clients in achieving strategic objectives through data solution implementation
  • Translating business requirements into technical details relevant to the TFTR configuration and integration team
  • Participate in gathering requirements, planning, and implementation of a master data management program and related data governance improvements
  • Define the current data architecture, including how data flows between systems, how it is used by different areas of the agency, and current challenges
  • Develop to-be data architecture, including data migration plans
  • Understand the client’s technical environment and how they use technology to provide the best, focused advice
  • Work with key business partners, technical staff, and vendors to understand what data will be collected by new systems and provide recommendations on how the data will flow through systems with consideration for a phased implementation and desired future state
  • Analyze business requirements and convert into technical data requirements
  • Collaborate with TFTR government team to define standards, policies, and procedures to improve the management of information and data throughout its lifecycle with an emphasis on improvements to data quality
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Program Manager
  • Must be US Citizen
  • Subject to a favorable US federal government background investigation
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems or other IT related field
Required Skills:
  • 5+ years of data architecture experience
  • Experience with cloud-based data solutions using new or emerging technologies
  • Experience with complex technology systems implementations which include data solutions and integrating data access layers across systems
  • Strong understanding of data modeling tools and standards, ETL tools, data integration tools, advanced SQL, and data governance tools
  • Experience across a set of data stores (e. g., Azure Data Factory, Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), Azure Data Lake Store, Azure Blob Storage, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Apache HBase, Azure DocumentDB), messaging systems (e. g., Apache Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, Azure IoT Hub) and data processing engines (e. g., Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, Azure Data Lake Analytics, Apache Storm, Azure HDInsight)
  • Experience with Business Intelligence and Reporting platforms; Azure Power BI is preferred
  • Direct and proven working experience with data management concepts and activities including an understanding of industry best practices for data sourcing, master data management, data quality, metadata management
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining large scale organizational data management programs to include the creation and maintenance of ontologies, taxonomies, and metadata using tools such as Azure Data Catalog, Erwin Data Catalog, or similar software products or services
  • Experience with data modeling and database design from conceptualization to optimization
  • Experience with specifying, developing, and maintaining integrations and interfaces using Application Program Interfaces (APIs); experience with Azure API Management and Azure Logic Apps is preferred
  • Knowledge of best practices for data architecture principles, standards, guidelines and concepts
  • Understanding of data and database architecture principles and database management systems
  • Ability to develop and deliver demonstrations to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Experience with Agile Scrum methodologies
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a government led Multi-Functional Team (MFT)
Desired Skills:
Experience with Department of Defense rule, regulation and policies (preferred)
