Location: Fredericksburg, VA 22407
Position Status: Direct hire
Salary: Extremely competitive
Shift: Monday - Friday (9am to 5pm)
Travel: 50% travel to major US cities
We are seeking a Network Administrator to join the Event Network Services team within the IT business unit. The primary goal of the Network Administrator is to plan, deploy and support SANS network systems at live training events. We are looking for an individual who has integrity, tenacity, humility, and desires to pursue excellence. The right individual would also be a self-starter who is adaptable, has excellent communication skills, can be relied on, is detailed oriented, and can work well individually or as part of a team.
*This position will be based out of the ­­­­­Fredericksburg, VA office.
  • Serve as on-site and remote network POC at live training events
  • Communicate with on-site personnel and 3rd-Party vendors to convey network configuration requirements in advance of events
  • Troubleshoot venue network or Internet issues that arise during events
  • Perform equipment inventory, maintenance, patching, configuration or improvements
  • Perform remote and on-site assessments of venue network and Internet infrastructure
  • Collaborate with the Service Desk, Labs & Cyber Ranges and Security teams in support of customer-facing IT needs at live training events
  • Provide initial operational and security incident response at events, escalating as required
  • Assist with the shipping and receiving of technical assets
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Proficient in wired/wireless networking concepts, hardware, cabling and best practices
  • Proficient in identifying and troubleshooting network availability and performance issues in a live environment
  • Proficient in configuring enterprise grade routing and switching hardware
  • Proficient with network monitoring and traffic shaping solutions
  • Familiarity with a programming/scripting language, routing protocols, VPNs and cellular technologies
  • Ability to troubleshoot and pinpoint root cause of network issues
  • Ability to communicate technical terms and ideas to non-technical staff and to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders while conveying a positive, service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Adaptive to leadership styles that promote collaboration, teamwork, innovation and exceeding operational expectations
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. and crawl under desks/tables
  • Must be able to travel to live training conferences and onsite events up to 50% of the time
  • Hands-on experience with networking concepts such as the OSI Model, VLANs, IPV4/Subnetting, DNS, DHCP, ICMP
  • Hands-on experience with configuring and installing network routers, managed switches, wireless access points and wireless controllers
  • Hands-on experience with twisted-pair and fiber-optic network cabling
  • Experience using traffic/bandwidth shaping solutions such as Sinefa, Exinda, Blue Coat, Nomadix, etc.
  • Associate degree in a technology focused discipline (Information Technology, Computer Networking, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1-3 years of hands-on experience installing and configuring computer networking equipment
  • GIAC Certification a plus
