Position Status: 6 month contract-to-hire

Shift: Monday - Friday (8am to 5pm)
Position Description:
Our client is looking for a mid-level
SQL Database Administrator for a position located in
Richmond, VA. Our client is a full-service freight transportation provider. They are the largest privately held less-than-truckload (LTL) company in the United States. Currently they are providing operational oversight for 160+ SQL Server instances (Clustered and non-Clustered) in a Virtualize environment. Product versions range from 2008-2016 and span multiple applications tiers (Development, QA, Pre-Production and Production). Candidate must be a motivated self-starter that can work well with other team members.
- Ensure SQL instance(s) availability, recovery
- Execute performance tuning, backup and restoration of databases
- Provide daily management of Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure and assure service availability
- Work with third Party monitoring tools (Alerting, Monitoring and Analysis)
- Maintain all databases including Development, QA, Pre-Production, and Production environments
- Work with business users, developers, and infrastructure teams to ensure solution needs are met
- Responsible for documenting all database maintenance procedures
- Keep SQL servers up to date with necessary patches and updates by testing and promoting from lower environment upward
- Resolve Remedy Tickets in accordance with ESTES SLA’s
- Ownership and execution of Change Controls related to the SQL infrastructure
- Perform database server migration/upgrade activities
- Create documentation to support administration duties as required
- Ability to open tickets with Microsoft support and work to resolution
- Review application logs, system dumps and reporting
- Participant in technical, capacity and planning meetings
- Support multiple Project and development efforts
- Performance Tuning, Alerting, monitoring in according best practices and requirements
- Any additional duties required to support the security, health and availability
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills
