Engineer II (Linux)

Position Title: Engineer II (Linux)
Location: Richmond, VA 23225
Position Status: 6 month contract-to-hire
Compensation: Negotiable
Shift: Monday - Friday (8am to 5pm)
Position Description:
Our client is looking for Engineer Level II for a position located in Richmond, VA. Looking for a seasoned Engineer with a strong concentration in VMware ESXi 5.5/6.6. The candidate should have thorough knowledge of Linux Red Hat server operating systems, as well as some general SAN administration. The candidate should possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to communicate with both internal and external users of various technical levels.  Must be able to work individually or in a team environment. Must have a strong desire to learn and expand on existing knowledge and industry standard certifications are a plus. Must be willing to provide 24/7 support as part of an on-call rotation.
Required Skills:
  • Experience with Linux in a virtualized environment
  • Familiar with Linux scripting languages (Python, Bash, Perl)
  • Strong understanding of management tools (Puppet, Chef, Wireshark)
  • Good working knowledge of firewalls and load balancers 
  • Install and configure vCenter Server
  • Configure and maintain ESXi servers
  • Setup and maintain HA, vMotion and DRS
  • Configure Datacenters, Clusters, Resource Pools, VMs and virtual switching
  • Install, configure and manage VDI solutions
  • Monitor health of VMs operating in various datacenters
  • Manage replications and VM movements between datacenters
  • Manage disaster recovery of the virtualized environment using SRM
  • Administer to Windows and Linux OS
  • Understanding of VMware’s integration with Pure and Dell/EMC storage systems
  • General administration of SAN storage arrays
Additional Skills: 
  • Experience with Active Directory
  • Experience with other hypervisors
  • Ability to work with a ticket system to manage incidents, tasks, and change control requests
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Provide 24 x 7 on call support as part of a scheduled rotation with other team members
Key Competencies Required:
  • Minimum seven years of technical experience in Linux/Virtual environment
